2026-2027
Calling for submissions from publishers, for books published in India, by Indian authors and Indian illustrators.
As this award is to celebrate Indian authors, illustrators and publishers, we are not accepting self-published books.

All books need to reach by April 10th, 2026.
The National Jarul Book Award recognizes exceptional picture books that resonate with young readers and contribute meaningfully to Indian literary heritage. The adult and children’s juries will shortlist books that meet the following criteria:

Published in India within the last three years.

Written and illustrated by individuals of Indian citizenship (with Indian passports, not OCI)

Featuring artwork that supports and enhances the text, contributing to Indian literature through a clear expression of theme, plot, character, setting, and style.

Engaging children aged 5-11 years.

Exemplifying a literary element or a meaningful life lesson.

Belonging to the genres of fiction, narrative nonfiction, biography, or nonfiction.

Written in English, including translations from an Indian dialect.

An original work (retellings, abridged versions, and compilations are not eligible).
